The EMP leaders for 2021/22 have been locked in and we are excited to welcome some new (and old!) faces!
George Shaw continues as Head Coach of the club after a successful first season at the helm. ‘Shawy’s’ passion for the game, his commitment to the task at hand and his ability to build relationships with his players immediately stood out when he joined the red and black family in 2020. His passion for the Bombers is infectious and we look forward to watching the club develop further under his leadership and guidance. He will also take on the role as 1st XI match day coach.
Some exciting new additions will also join the EMP Coaching Panel this season.
Stu Wilson joins the Bombers as Assistant Coach. Stu has recently held positions as a Development Coach and Captain at both Footscray Cricket Club in men’s Premier Cricket and at Melton Cricket Club in the VSDCA. A former Regional Cricket Manager of the West Metro Region, Stu has been a friend of the club for some time now and we are pleased to welcome him as part of our coaching team.
We also welcome home Natalie Grero (many will remember her as Nat Mifsud!) who will Captain/Coach our 3rd XI. A former 1st XI player at EMP and Victorian junior Captain, (with a cover drive some can only dream of), Natalie has been coaching junior girls cricket in Bacchus Marsh since 2014. A driving force behind the Bacchus Marsh Cricket Club senior team, Natalie also supported the development of the GDCA women’s competition. We are super excited to welcome her back to the Bombers and know she will be an outstanding mentor for our young 3rd XI side.
Young guns Tomeka Fowlie and Scarlett Saxon-Jones will step up into the joint role of 2nd XI Match Day Coach. With both players epitomising the EMP values, leadership qualities and outstanding knowledge for the game, we look forward to watching them further grow as leaders in their new roles. They will be ably supported by returning player Emma ‘Squeaks’ Wheeler, who will Captain the 2nd XI side. A Bomber since 2003, we welcome Emma back into an on-field role, while daughter Ellie will no doubt take up the role of no. 1 supporter. (Possibly Mr Squeaks will return to his post as scorer?)
Rounding out the Coaching Panel will be Specialist Coaches Briana Binch, Tegan French, Sarah Harris and Michelle Tan. Familiar names to all with over 700 games of experience between them, women who are outstanding EMP people and will continue to lead and support the next generation.
With coaches locked in we are also excited to announce Makinley Blows to continue in the role as EMP Club Captain. A dual Raelee Thompson Club Champion, Makinley continues to develop and grow in her leadership role and we look forward to watching her continue her journey in the red and black.
In the meantime, please stay safe and well Bomber Family and continue to look after yourselves and each other. Looking forward to having you all back at Aberfeldie very soon.
