We are excited to announce the appointment of George Shaw as the new Head Coach of Essendon Maribyrnong Park Ladies Cricket Club. George will join the existing coaching panel of Neil Gray, Natalie Schilov, Lyndall Daley and Elyse Villani.
George joins EMP with a wealth of cricket experience including current positions as the Junior Coordinator at Yarraville Cricket Club and Talent Identification Coordinator at Footscray Edgewater Cricket Club.
As well as a number of junior and senior coaching roles, George has been heavily involved in the local region, coaching the Western Spirit under 14s, 16s and 18s for the past nine years.
A passionate cricket person, George has vast experience on how to get the best out of players skill sets along with supporting them and challenging the players to be the best they can be.
The exciting announcements don’t stop there!
We also welcome back former Coach and Life Member Mel Jones to the role of Head of Leadership and Culture.
With an influx of new players, members and coaches, Mel’s role aims to connect all club members with a common and shared approach to club behaviours and actions.
Coach of EMP from 2004-2013 Mel was instrumental in re-generating the club’s culture and values which transferred into on field success culminating in seven Premierships under her tenure.
2020/21 will see us form a new standalone 3rd XI side who will compete in the newly established CV Premier 3rds Competition. The ‘Baby Bombers’ will be supported on match day by experienced 2nd XI player Tegan French who will provide match day assistance from an off field perspective.
We also welcome Rob Ward to the position of Chair of Selectors. Rob's position will comprise both weekly selection as well as a focus on the future as an overall 'List Manager' role. Rob will be charged with identifying future EMP talent and establishing relationships with pathway programs to ensure EMP is in the best possible position to attract young players coming through cricket systems.
President Leah Caluzzi said “we’re incredibly excited with the calibre of people we’ve been able to add to our cricket program for this season. The introduction of the Women’s Premier 3rd XI team provides a great opportunity for us to continue to build our pathway, and to have this team in place to support them, along with our whole Club, is something we’re looking forward to.”
After two seasons in the role of Coaching and Program Director, Neil Gray steps into the role of Coaching Co-ordinator. A passionate Bomber from the day he joined, we thank Neil for his two seasons heading up our program which culminated in the 2019/20 CV Club Championship and are pleased he will continue to contribute via this new role.
Whilst we are aware 2020/21 will throw up some unique challenges, we are thrilled with the group assembled to lead us through this season. Welcome and congratulations to all!
